Ray LaMontagne – Gossip in the Grain

Posted on | March 12, 2009 | No Comments

raylamontagneGossip in the Grain is an album that pays tribute to 60s soul, American roots and deep blues music, yet still manages to come off as a unified whole, crafted by an artist who has an appreciation of that which is the essence of all great music.

A quiet, deeply personal artist presenting an aspect of himself that is exposed and raw, Ray has wrapped up his pain, loss, love and joy in foot-tapping melodies and beautiful guitar work to soften the blow.

Digging deeper than the Van Morrison and Nick Drake comparisons, you find a songwriter with great phrasing, heartfelt lyrics, a sweet, sad delivery and a raspy ol’ voice that has been hurt so good.

“The hours grow heavy and hollow and cruel as a grave…I still care for you”
