Michelle Childs – 365 Days of Photos
Posted on | August 4, 2009 | No Comments
With the realization that she had slowly moved away from photography, Michelle Childs designed a challenge to re-inspire her creative eye by taking photos every day for a year and posting the images to her blog.
The project, entitled 365 Days of Photos is in full swing, is apparently going “quite well” and has had the unintended outcome of creating “a visual diary of sorts…[with] life, travels, work, the good days and bad days all captured through photographs.”
Using a digital camera and not deleting anything has led to almost 5200 images and many “happy accidents.” Posting the images to her blog has helped Childs stay focused, and her loyal audience of family and friends keep her accountable as they look forward to seeing her latest images.
When the project began, Childs didn’t have a clear idea of her focus or favorite subjects, she simply enjoyed taking photos. Shooting every day, however, has helped her refine her style and has revealed a pattern of being drawn to strong angles and intense color palettes.
The goal of reigniting her love for photography appears to be realized as the project, now in its eighth month, is going strong.
Her simple digital camera has its drawbacks and eventually Childs wants to upgrade to an SLR, but she doesn’t believe that expensive cameras make images better, and for now she’s “sticking with the basic principles of photography, shooting daily and learning that with every click [she's] getting better.”
