Creepy House Update

CreepyUpdate

A few months ago, I posted a piece called Creepy House Falls Down. The subject is a house down the road from us that has been vacant and falling apart for years. I didn’t have any background information on the who, what and why’s surrounding the house, but I promised to find out what I could.

Recently an old friend let me know that she was waiting for an update and that October would be the perfect time for it, so here it is, everything that we could find out about the little creepy house:

It’s been vacant for nearly 50 years.

It was a family’s summer home.

When the parent’s died, there was some fighting among the children about who would get it, how they could share it or if they should sell it.

Apparently the dispute was never resolved because it’s just been sitting there, curtains and all, for 50 years.

The original owner’s children have probably passed away by now.

Several years ago a tree fell onto it, securing it’s fate as a pile of lumber.

Earlier this year, what was left of the structure caved in on itself, leaving it totally unapproachable (by me anyway).

So there it sits, a bunch of rubble on a winding road, a reminder of the good old days of summer homes in the country and a cautionary tale about fighting with your siblings.
