Paul Richmond’s Ins & Outs

InsandOuts

A few months ago House of Cat featured an interview with artist Paul Richmond. His paintings are among the most joyful and honest creations I’ve seen and we received a lot of great feedback on the feature. To my great delight, Paul has included his House of Cat interview in a book celebrating his work called Ins & Out: A Collection. I am honored and stoked to be a part of this project and encourage you all to explore the unique and wonderful works of this extraordinary artist.

Here are Paul’s thoughts on his book:
“The idea began with a desire to share my paintings in a format that would highlight their storytelling qualities. I decided to present them in chronological order by the period of my life represented, forming a continuous, visual narrative about the wacky adventures of this Dolly Parton-idolizing, repressed gay boy from the Midwest. Each painting is accompanied by a description revealing more of its inspiration. I tried to include everything I would tell you if I could travel around and share the stories in person (which would also be fun, but the book makes a much better stocking-stuffer!).”

“This expanded edition includes not only a foreword by talented artist Melissa Forman, but also a fabulous interview conducted by your own Cat Johnson which came from an article right here on House of Cat! There’s also a larger selection of artwork, with fifty paintings in all, including my Cheesecake Boy pin-up series and recent gay novel cover art.”

“I’m so thrilled that I’ve been fortunate to create enough work to fill my first book! It was a great opportunity to reflect on my artistic experiences to date – everything from my involvement with the Tammy Faye Memorial Celebration to being chosen as one of GLAAD’s Top 100 Artists this year because of my controversial painting Noah’s Gay Wedding Cruise. Along the way, I’ve heard from a lot of people who see aspects of their own journeys in my work, and more than anything, I hope this book will create more opportunities for those kinds of connections to happen.”
