Royal Mail Rocks

Royal Mail, the national postal service of the United Kingdom has announced a set of stamps celebrating British album covers. The featured albums were selected by UK music editors, graphic designers and design writers who were asked to choose the most significant sleeve designs used by British artists.

Record fans will be pleased to find that the project is keeping it analog, with vinyl featured in the designs rather than cds. Seems like a good move, since most of these albums were originally released on lp.

The obvious absence of any Beatles album in the collection is due to the fact that the Royal Mail already issued a set of six Beatles stamps a few years ago…though it may be a bit late to start worrying about Beatles saturation.

The stamps will apparently see the light of day in 2010, although I’m not sure about getting them in the states. Does Royal Mail take paypal?

Kudos for a cool and creative idea. I’ll have to get a hold of these to put with my Yoda and Ella Fitzgerald stamps.
