I Like Music: A Cartoon

I love talking about music with people. I love hearing what they’re into and why. I love that everyone has a list of music that they consider “really great” and that while there is always some overlap, everyone’s lists are different. It’s interesting to me that people are moved by different music.

This guy named Stuart McMillen creates cartoons and this one, entitled I Like Music is about music and what he likes. While my list of bands would be different, I love that he took the time to break down what qualities he likes and then draw bands that represent those qualities.

What amazes me is how quickly the comments about his cartoon turn hostile. The longer you’re around music, the more you get exposed to and you start to discover some really interesting things hiding in obscurity. Does it make you pretentious to like obscure music? Not necessarily. In my world it makes you more interesting; as long as you’re not a snob about it.

That completes my rant. Now go enjoy some music.

    Thanks for the critique/commentary Cat.

Yes, the cartoon was purely supposed to be a reflection of some of the songs that were really rocking my world in the middle of 2009. I think most people picked up on the vibe I was trying to convey, but some people did respond with comments to the effect of “how DARE you have that opinion!”

Oh well, I guess you’ve gotta stick your neck out there sometimes. Hopefully my 28 January 2010 comment clarifies a few things.
