House of Cat Around the World – Chilean Street Art Style

Posted on | June 3, 2010 | No Comments

A few weeks ago, I put up a post about the inspired and inspiring Chilean street art scene. In one of those it’s-a-small-world-after-all moments, a House of Cat reader in Chile contacted me and let me know that although he wasn’t really into the street art scene, he enjoyed seeing his hometown featured in the video.

From there, we got to chatting and I asked him if he would be interested in taking some photos for the House of Cat Around the World series. He was, and he kindly set out about his town, looking for cool pieces to photograph.

This is what he wrote in the email accompanying the images he sent to me:

“These photos were taken in Quinta Normal, in an old neighborhood with many factories and storehouses, so there is plenty of wall for artists to do their thing. I put Hoe’s flickr because I just find his work really amazing. Oh, and about that graffiti on the semi-destroyed wall, I thought it would be interesting to note that the earthquake did that to the construction there.

As for the credit, it would be cool if you just leave it anonymous, I had great fun taking these photos, and I also learned a lot about something I didn’t know was so big here in Chile. I consider myself satisfied.

The groups represented are Los Pancora and the DS3 Crew.
The artists are Hoe, Ovid, Manchas, Chillen, mtk…and MANY more.”

I want to give a huge shout out to my new Chilean friend and say Thank You! for expanding both of our worlds.

Coincidentally, the last Around the World photos were also taken in Chile, in Punta Arenas, by a sailor friend who was in the middle of a voyage. Consider Chile officially represented on House of Cat, and now House of Cat is officially represented in Chile. I love it.

I’d like to get House of Cat photos from readers all over the world. If you’d like to take photos of a House of Cat sign (of any sort) in your corner of the planet, I would be most appreciative. We want to see where you are, and what you do. Just get in touch with me.
