Hand-Made Letters

We took a quick road trip down to L.A. this week, and as we drove from one small, rural town to the next, I was acutely aware that I really needed to plan a slow and leisurely photo trip to shoot the awesome typography and old signage that is hanging on by a thread.

I love this old lettering, and I think that it would make a great photo project/collection/obsession, and I also realized that this stuff is going away. My feeling is that I’d better take photos of the ones that are still around, because they represent a way of life that is moseying along.

It was a rush trip, so I didn’t even take my camera, but I came home to this link in my inbox: 40+ Examples of Hand-Lettering. Coincidence? I think not. Here are a few of my favorites from the collection. Stay tuned for the first installation of my own hand-lettered typography photos.
